Working out the Memberships

I've decided to set the site up so that anyone can join.  Membership will be free but won't be worth much.  It's just a way for me to start a relationship with you.  That way, you get a log in or screen name, your own password, a security question and all of this will be confirmed by email.  I have most of the kinks worked out (thanks a ton IE 8 ) and have had a few nice friends test for me.  So, I am putting the Sign Up button on the home page - no really, check it out.

If you are reading this and have a kind heart, sign up.  Let me know how it goes - good or bad.  You can post a comment in this blog or send me an email.  Here is what I'd like to know.

  • Does every step make sense?
  • Did you get confused anywhere along the way?
  • Did the pages display correctly - things didn't look wonky.  With the number of different computers and configurations it's very difficult to trap every circumstance.  So if things do look goofy, let me know what Operating System and Browser you were using.
  • Anything else you noticed that should be fixed or clarified.

Oh, and if you were one of those nice tester friends - thanks.  And your account has been destroyed  Sealed.  If you care to, you can sign up for real at the real site.

That's it for this week.  I'm headed for the coast on vacation at the end of the week, so I'm not certain how much new stuff I'll be able to put together for next week.  But, I might slip in a bit of work.

The work before the work

Never take infrastructure for granted! I've spent the last week(end) building all the environments necessary to create a stable application. This is the stuff that normal people could care less about, but if done improperly could be really not good!

But, I'm happy to say the hardest parts of environment configuration are behind me. Now, it's on to the interesting stuff. I have created a User Login screen (that won't mean anything to anyone for a while) and will now start working on how to get my testers into secure areas of the site. All in all, a very busy week, but with very few visible results. *sigh*
